This was the best family gift this year (2019)! These machines are amazing!!! Kids love them, adults love them, we’ve been riding for hours the past few days. Very smooth ride. I liken it to being on a moving sidewalk. It is so effortless to get it to respond to your movements. To this point – zero – complaints. You do have to hook to the app and go through some rider safety stuff. Machines will make noises until you do that. Once done you need to go into the app and adjust the speed limiter. It’s factory set at 6.4 I believe but you can remove the limit and it will go to just over 12. Still beeps if you exceed the limit but its a very fun leisurely ride. Note…we bought handles but they did not work with this model so we had to return. My wife wanted the handles but she has ridden too without them. The machines are very easy to learn and use, handles are really not necessary. Not even sure if one is made for the Plus model, but not necessary. The remote control follow function is fun as well. It’s basically like a little droid. It will self balance when turned on and you can easily stand on it without moving and it will balance you as well. I was skeptical how i would like the directional control/steering with the middle push column but it is so easy and works seamlessly in controlling turns. Well Done!!

This segway is amazing. We’ve only had it a few days since Christmas but my daughter can’t stop riding it around the house. The “follow me” is a great option for when riding is not allowed or you are carrying packages. Our family did two segway tours while on vacation recently and were so overwhelmed with the feeling of ‘flying’ and fun that I knew we’d be buying a segway for ourselves. The pros use the hard-core units that cost $4,000-$6,000 but the owner of the segway tour told us we’d likely be fine with the smaller unit. I like the fact that the mileage and speed on the Ninebot S-plus is greater than the regular ninebots and with the Holiday special the price even dropped to about $580 when I purchased this. (Now its jumped to $799; had it stayed lower I would have already placed my order for a second one so Mom or Dad could join on excursions!) The box was not too bad for me to lift and move and I assembled it quick and super easy Christmas Eve. There was already one bar on the battery life so I could sneak a try, then I charged it for a few hours to max and snuck it next to the tree. Our driveway is steep enough to trap us on bad snow days but it went up with an adult with no hesitation; same with the end of our street which is even steeper and longer and always kicks off my asthma and awakens dormant quad muscles. While the knee steering was better than I expected we were spoiled by the handlebars and I like the ease of control they offer so I’m currently looking for that attachment….can’t find it here or online but will keep looking. Daughter indicated riding all throughout the first day did make her inner knees a bit tender but she still keeps going! This is probably the best purchase we’ve ever made and I’m so glad I took the chance. These are super fun!

Absolutely phenomenal battery life, even for a 200 pounder like me. I can still get 15 to 17 miles of range going at a decent pace of 8-10 mph. However, it does get unnerving that, when reaching top speed of 12 to 12 1/2 mph, there is an unsettling backing off that happens and the over speed alarm is very loud, and it doesn’t seem to be mutable. After the warranty expires, I do plan on making a hack to make the speaker not as annoyingly loud. Another minor annoyance is the forced new driver tutorial, where the speed is limited to less than 3 mph when you first receive the unit. For someone who may already be used to the cheaper self balancing hoverboards, this will prove to be super annoying, but I guess I realize that the lawyers probably made them do it.

At age 67, I found this easy to ride (note, I’m in good health and have good balance), and I weigh about 165lbs. Wear a helmet! S Plus works exactly as expected, no defects, great battery life. Unless you ride for a couple of hours, you will get worn out way before the battery runs down. The air-filled tires make the ride comfortable and smooth over regular terrain. FYI, if you have trouble finishing the tutorial (to unlock full speed), make sure you downloaded the CORRECT app. There are two of them. You want the global one.

I have had the Segway S-Plus for almost a month at the time of this writing. I have 100+ miles (…160+ kms) on it and am thoroughly enjoying it. Ok, here it is…I am of the more mature generation. Over 65 years old and yes, still have the brain of an 18 year old. I live in a neighborhood that consists of mostly retired folks. While some have made it clear they think I am crazy and an accident waiting to happen. Others are extremely curious and you know deep down they want to try it, but do not ask. I stop to answer their questions, turn my music back on and continue on my way. Net, this thing is awesome!!! I named it “Rosie” after the Jetson’s family robot. Here are some things you might find helpful… At first, I spent about an hour on “Rosie” in my garage with the cars removed. The built-in progressive training settings actually work well. I thought it was a little ridiculous at first, but it worked well and most likely saved me a few bruises I do not need. After getting a general idea on the feel, I ventured out onto the street. Wham!!! Down I went!!! …if I did not know better, I think “Rosie” looked at me and snickered… This was the first time I mounted without any assistance. Yes, asphalt hurts and yes, you can fall off this thing. After awhile I finally got it right and was able to mount without assistance. The next week was spent maneuvering manholes, ascending & descending hills, avoiding cars pulling out of driveways, and waving to the PRIME delivery folks in the neighborhood (…it is amazing how many there are!). I soon graduated to using headsets for music and phone calls while riding. I am now probably at the stage of being over-confident, but life moves on. Overall, “Rosie” is fairly easy to ride and learn how to do so. At the beginning I got a hint of the feeling I had getting off of the chairlift on a snowboard for the first few times. I do wish “Rosie” could go a little faster. While 11-12 mph may seem fast at first, a few more mph of speed would be nice without being constantly beeped at. Hope this review helps. Oliver Wendell Homes Sr. once quoted, “A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” Enjoy!!! Rosie’s owner, A.
